Our Team:
The Makuhari Team serves in mutual cooperation with Kaihin Makuhari Grace Church (KMGC). Our shared goal is for KMGC to grow into a robust, spiritually-mature congregation that is a greenhouse for new pastors, church officers, and missionaries.
Area:
Kaihin Makuhari is just 38 minutes from Tokyo Station in the Mihama Ward, one of the least-churched parts of the Greater Tokyo Area. (Tokyo averages 1 church for every 15,000 residents, but Mihama Ward has only about half with 5 churches to 150,000 residents). KM is a growing neighborhood of over 30,000 people. It is also home to a professional baseball team, a major business district, and Japan's second-largest convention center.
Church:
KMGC is a healthy and vibrant congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Japan (PCJ). Attendance has grown from 50-60 in 2022 to 70-80 in 2025, including an increasing number of internationals. Due to the partnership between KMGC and Makuhari Team, the church has become a training ground for new shepherds and undershepherds for the Lord's flock, which both upbuilds the congregation and builds pastors for the PCJ. This is a precious work, as over 3000 Japanese churches will close by 2030 due to the lack of pastors.
